Kristen Petrey

Hello, my name is Kristen Petrey. Before I share my career plans with you, I’d like to tell you about myself. When I returned to college in 2014, I had about 50 college credits that I’d accumulated here and there since 2001. I’m excited to be in a position now to finish my degree. Before 2009, I worked for USPS carrying mail. After that, I got a job as a data entry worker and was recruited by the systems admin at our site to build databases and applications using SQL and VBA. It was at that job that I decided I wanted to go back to school and pursue a career as a database administrator.

My hobbies include playing guitar, singing, gardening, cooking and of course, computing. I’m a big fan of organic farming, cooking, homesteading and sustainability. I love to cook the goodies that come out of my garden. In computing, I like tinkering with internal and external hardware on pcs and everything about databases. Big data and quantum computing are also areas of interest for me. I hope that one day I’ll be able to work with big data on quantum computers! One of my less obvious hobbies is analyzing just about anything you can think of (from the things people say to weather patterns) to find obscure relationships. My husband isn’t very fond of that one but more often than not, it helps us with our decisions.
